Maurach am Achensee

Located at the south end of Lake Achensee, Maurach is an ideal destination for nature lovers.

The Buchau public swimming area is popular with families thanks to the warm water (approx. 22 °C) and the shallow lakeshore.

The sprawling village, which is also the region's educational center, has been the final stop of the Achensee steam cogwheel train (the oldest of its kind in Europe!) for more than 120 years now. With an elevation gain of 440 meters and a length of about 7 kilometers the journey from Jenbach to Eben at Lake Achensee is an unparalleled experience.
The emerald green lake is surrounded by dark coniferous forests, flower-strewn meadows and the mighty Rofan mountains.
Special attractions are the Rofanseilbahn cable car, the "Adlerhorst" vantage platform and the spectacular "Airrofan" skyglider, which offers visitors a bird's eye view of the unique landscape.

Sights and attractions you should not miss in Maurach...

You should definitely visit the Notburga church. Notburga, a simple maid in the 13th century, is the most popular patron saint in Tirol. She was always keen to help the poor. Discover everything about the patron saint of farmers, maids, the poor and sick at the Notborga museum in Eben, the only museum in Austria dedicated to a female saint.

At Franz Kostenzer, a distillery, you will get to know everything about schnapps. He offers approx. 70 different sorts of schnapps and liqueurs. You can also participate at various seminars or tours in order to get to know more about them.

On approx. 8 ha the Achensee museum, called "Museumsdorf", shows you everything about local tradition as well as the working and living conditions at lake Achensee in former times. Furthermore, it offers information on local associations, institutions and entertainment such as the puppet theatre - there is always something new to discover.
